A Glimpse into the Marvels of Jaia

December 23, 2024

BioSynth takes place in a lore-rich world called Jaia around the year 2300. It’s a world full of wonders with a huge diversity both in the environment and in the settlements – human or not.

If we take a quick look at some of the continents, we’ll see the flourishing jungles of Betiti that seamlessly transition to their green cities full of mutants, the seemingly uninhabited freezing land of Al-Vazir that hides astonishing undergound cities, and much more…

During BioSynth, you’ll stay on Krania, a continent full of minerary resources that after going through a super-quick expansion, ruined its environment well after the point of no return. Thankfully, the continent became so rich that it is still the biggest economic force in the planet.

Actually, that isn’t a good thing… because where there’s money, there’s greed. And when there’s greed, people do horrible things.

Anyway, the game starts in Etheita, the most thriving city in Krania

Etheita, the City of the Endless Possibilities

You start the game in Freedom Streets, the slums of the city… after a quick and (un)fortunate series of events, you end up there.

Given that…

  • it’s an unfriendly environment
  • there are hunters looking for you
  • you are far from your comfortable home…

… it’s only normal that you’ll want to get out of there.

If you find your way out, you’ll get to visit downtown, which is a lively place where all kinds of activities take place. Let me highlight ALL KINDS of ACTIVITIES.

Some superpowers have their headquarters there. For example, the Bounters’ headquarters is there… that’s the superpower that dispatches bounty hunters all over the planet. If you wish, you can start a career as bounty hunter for the Bounters, but notice that only the strongest climb the ladder and can reach high rankings there… the others stay stuck… or worse, they try to catch a big fish outside of their league and die.

Note: superpowers are organizations that rule the world, since most of the governments don’t exist anymore on the planet.

Etheita is big city, but which parts of the city you’ll get to see depends on what funds we’ll be able to gather to finish the game. So, if you want to see more, please follow and share our Kickstarter.

Paradise Bay and Southport are two additional areas worth visiting, if we get to make them.

Anyway, you may want to take a tour outside of the city, for a variety of reasons that you’ll figure out when playing the game.

The Dangerous Surroundings of Etheita

While The Machine is located outside of Etheita (and quite far from it), it’s considered part of the city. It’s a giant industrial area made for a very specific reason: migrating all the industries that were in the city further away to avoid killing citizens with toxic wastes of all sorts.

In case you’re wondering how can humans work in The Machine when it’s full of pollution… well, they don’t. All the workers there are robots, with the exception of some humans that have to carry a time limited job in that place.

Seen from afar, The Machine appears like a giant metallic plateau. Its elevated construction was decided mainly for two reasons: to distance the production site from the unloading area as much as possible; and to protect the district from surrounding desert marauders or any other type of unwanted invader.

In fact, the desert where The Machine lies is the home of many criminal gangs. And certain places are full of mutants.

Speaking of mutants… we probably should talk about the Deadland… but we won’t. Just stay out of that place, unless you’re hunting a huge catch, it isn’t worth risking your life there.

But there’s an even stranger place out there. A place born out of a terrible accident that is a concern for many… and an opportunity for others.

Conclusion

This was a quick overview of the area where the game take place. I didn’t talk about certain places and only covered the surface of others, since I don’t want to ruin the joy of the discovery for you when playing the game. Also, each place has its own personalities and customs, making it different.

With this post I just wanted to give you a glimpse into the depth of the lore in this game.

That said, I wish you Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and have some great holidays!

See you in the next year.

  • That was what I was looking for, thanks Mauro!
Have a great Christmas time, and all the best for you, your family and the Biosynth team!
