<p>First things first, I want to say a <strong>huge thank you to all the awesome people who believed in us</strong> and supported us.</p>



<p>Not only our backers, who of course we are really grateful for. But also the people who shared the campaign, the people who rooted for us and everyone who left us a feedback (positive or negative doesn&#8217;t matter) because it&#8217;s thanks to that that we can grow.</p>



<p>The response to BioSynth has actually been incredible. We saw so much love from so many people. But it seems like we can&#8217;t make the Kickstarter work.</p>



<p>Looking closely at the campaign, the truth is simple: BioSynth&#8217;s scope is incredibly ambitious, and our current execution and resources weren&#8217;t enough. That&#8217;s entirely on me.</p>



<p>I’ve poured 5 years of my life, my savings, and all my passion into BioSynth because I have always believed in it and have always thought that the ideas behind it are really cool.</p>



<p>The sad reality is that without funds we can&#8217;t complete the game.</p>



<p><strong>Does this mean that BioSynth dies here?</strong> Not necessarily, please keep reading to have the full picture.</p>



<p>I am deeply passionate about making games, and I am continuing in this direction, learning from my mistakes with BioSynth.</p>



<p>My biggest mistake was to start a game that&#8217;s too big. Every time I faced a challenge in life, I found a way to overcome it&#8230; when I started BioSynth I kept the same thought pattern: “I don&#8217;t have the resources to complete it now, but I can find a way to get the resources later”. I was wrong.</p>



<p>Now I want to go in the opposite direction. My goal is to start a new game that&#8217;s small and doable without coming to Kickstarter. Something that I could <strong>launch in a few months on Steam</strong>.</p>



<p>Classic RPGs are my absolute favorite genre. I also love ARPGs and RPGs in general, but they&#8217;re huge games too. In the last couple of years, I discovered a new genre that has been a blast for me: Bullet Heaven – which, if you think about it, are basically storyless ARPGs.</p>



<p>After careful thought, I decided to start a bullet heaven with these points in mind:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Hand-drawn 2D</strong> – the idea is to keep the exact same style as the concept art you see for the robots in BioSynth, just with fewer details so they fit the gameplay.</li>



<li>It takes place in the <strong>same world of BioSynth</strong>. It&#8217;ll actually reveal some characters, items, places.</li>



<li>The plan is to release a <strong>demo for Steam Next Fest</strong> – either the one in June 2026, or the following one in October 2026.</li>



<li>I aim at releasing an <strong>Early Access about one month later</strong> for 1,99€ and will add content regularly till the full game is published.</li>
</ul>

<p>It&#8217;s been a while since we shared new content&#8230;</p>



<p>&#8230; well, the good news is that we are <strong>creating a lot of stuff behind the scene</strong>.</p>



<p>I can&#8217;t share everything yet, but just to mention a few, we&#8217;ve been working on:</p>

<p>Now let me show you a few of the content and features we&#8217;ve been creating.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Ninja Class</h2>

<p>Can&#8217;t say if he&#8217;ll be playable in the demo&#8230; but <strong>we&#8217;ll show him in action</strong> for sure &#8211; either before we launch <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/neptunegames/biosynth-rpg" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/neptunegames/biosynth-rpg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the Kickstarter</a> or at launch.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">More Depth in the Combat System</h2>



<p>An aspect on which we&#8217;ve been working on for a while is more depth in the combat system.</p>



<p>As I said <a href="https://neptunegames.net/whats-the-vision-for-biosynth/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">in a previous post</a>, one of BioSynth&#8217;s pillars is having a fun gameplay. Both <strong>strategy</strong> and <strong>variety of builds</strong> are important aspects to achieve the fun gameplay.</p>



<p>We introduced a <strong>few combat stats to add depth</strong>.</p>



<p>For example, <strong>armor penetration</strong>, which is a way to bypass the target&#8217;s armor – it&#8217;s responsible for reducing incoming damages. So now you have two options with different pros and cons to deal more damage in combat: more raw damage or more armor penetration.</p>



<p>Other stats are about critical damage. <strong>Critical chance</strong> and <strong>critical damage multiplier</strong> are two crucial stats if you want to play a crit build.</p>



<p>We are still working on these and the end goal is to <strong>get in the sweet spot</strong>: having enough depth to let you have the most fun, but without having unnecessary complexity that would just make things tedious.</p>



<p>Something that we are still working on is the <strong>encumbrance</strong>, which is a stat exclusive of ranged weapons. Encumbrance is relevant only when a character is too close to one or more enemies. When that happens, the character loses precision based on the weapon encumbrance. So, for example, a character armed with a pistol (very low encumbrance) won&#8217;t be much affected by close enemies, while another character armed with a sniper rifle will have a hard time trying to hit enemies that are at a melee distance. It&#8217;s an interesting idea, because this could open lots of strategical decision.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Additional Quality of Life Features</h2>



<p>The game has to be <strong>easy/quick to understand</strong>. You want to spend your time having fun, not trying to decode what&#8217;s on your screen or what a certain skill does.</p>



<p>Improving in this aspect is a never-ending process. Based on players&#8217; feedbacks and by looking at people playing the game, it&#8217;s always possible to improve.</p>



<p>One of many QoL features that we added is about the <strong>skills description</strong>.</p>



<p>Previously, the skills description wasn&#8217;t showing enough info. Now it&#8217;s much better – even if it still isn&#8217;t the final version.</p>

<p>Not only you get a bunch of information about the skill that you weren&#8217;t getting before; certain things are way <strong>quicker to grasp</strong> now.</p>



<p>For example, every time you encounter the red text on a skill description, it&#8217;s telling you the <strong>amount of damages</strong> you&#8217;ll deal. Or in purple you can read about the <strong>debuffs</strong> that you are applying.</p>

<p>BioSynth is the playing ground of many powerful characters. You&#8217;ll get to meet some of them&#8230; while it&#8217;s better than you don&#8217;t encounter others.</p>



<p>While you go on with your life, different factions and individuals are scheming on ways to gain more power and influence. If you end up trapped in someone&#8217;s net, you may become a prey&#8230; or worse you may become the puppet of someone you don&#8217;t even know.</p>



<p>Make your moves and try not to bother the wrong people.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The 5 Ranks</strong></h2>



<p>But before you know who those are, you have to understand what are the 5 ranks of remarkable individuals:</p>

<p>They are the richest and most powerful people in the world. Although individually they are not forces of nature, they have such an influence that no one in the world dares touch or question them.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><a></a> <strong>Judges</strong></h3>

<p>They are the highest ranking bounty hunters. They accept commissions almost only from World Rulers. They are the strongest individuals in the world, contested only by a few Calamities. For these reasons, they enjoy boundless freedom, with the only limit of not being able to harm the World Rulers.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Calamities</strong></h3>



<p>They are individuals with extreme power and not subject to anyone. But for obvious reasons, they avoid attracting the scorn of the World Rulers and the attention of the Judges.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Celebrities</strong></h3>



<p>They are characters with enormous influence and exceptional wealth. They live in privileged areas of cities that are precluded to those of lower status. They are almost always at the head of the largest factions or very successful organizations&#8230; in other cases they are key figures in the world of entertainment.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Leaders</strong></h3>



<p>They are those people who have an influence on different individuals. Because they are at the head of a faction, because they own organizations or because they are so strong that they are feared and respected by many.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Some Remarkable Individuals</strong></h2>



<p>I can&#8217;t say if you&#8217;ll encounter any of the following individuals or not. Just know that, if you happen to meet any of those, they are fearsome enemies or precious allies, so choose your actions carefully.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Leonardo The Crafter</strong></h3>



<p><strong>Rank:</strong> Undisclosed.</p>



<p>The greatest robotics genius ever to exist on <a href="https://neptunegames.net/a-glimpse-into-the-marvels-of-jaia/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jaia</a>. He has created several robots of great power and high technological level, including The Renegade, The Slayer and The Alchemist. Traces of him have been lost for many years, but rumors suggest that he is still alive.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Renegade &#8211; his original name got lost</strong></h3>



<p><strong>Rank:</strong> Calamity.</p>



<p><a></a> A robot who decided to hunt his own species to increase his power. He targets the most notable robotic specimens in order to take over their technology. Exceptionally, he also finds himself hunting humans/cyborgs/mutants when they possess technology that piques his interest.</p>



<p>For The Renegade, each victim adds technology and knowledge to his repertoire. To tell it all, that is the only reason for him to combat: he avoids any fight where the stakes aren&#8217;t either new tech to acquire or his survival. It has been reported many times that he just ignored the attacks of unworthy opponents.</p>



<p>He is continually in motion. He was recently spotted in the desert lands of Krania – the continent where the game takes place.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Yoruni Musashi</strong></h3>



<p><strong>Rank:</strong> Judge.</p>



<p>She&#8217;s one of the deadliest ninjas on the planet. Her 2-sword fighting style and agility are unmatched. There&#8217;s a tale where she fought alone against the entire squad of a certain calamity, couting 88 strong individuals between men and robots, without receiving a single hit – but it&#8217;s just a tale, for sure it is not true.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>[NAME UNDISCLOSED]</strong></h3>



<p><strong>Rank:</strong> Celebrity.</p>



<p>[NAME UNDISCLOSED] is an extremely popular Celebrity who lives in Paradise Bay – an exclusive area in Etheita (the city where the game takes place) where only Celebrities, Judges, World Rulers, and their servants are allowed.</p>



<p>[NAME UNDISCLOSED] is fascinated by rare and exceptional things&#8230; they say that in his mansion there are historical artworks, tech pieces so advanced that even renowned scientists crave and bizarre things like a living dinosaur. Apparently there&#8217;s something unique that just picked his interest like few things did before&#8230; but none know what that is.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Conclusion</strong></h2>



<p>This was a quick look at some of the lore behind the characters in the game. Let me remind you that BioSynth&#8217;s lore book will be available during the Kickstarter, so <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/neptunegames/biosynth-rpg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">be sure to follow it</a>.</p>



<p>Before interacting with a character could be a good idea to gather information first, so that you can start forming an idea about their way of thinking, their possible actions and their agenda. Or just don&#8217;t and simply force your way through becoming the next big fish.</p>



<p>But remember that there&#8217;s always a bigger fish&#8230; and gathering unwanted attention could lead to problems&#8230;</p>

<p>Recently we asked BioSynth&#8217;s community for a feedback on a few subjects and&#8230;</p>



<p>&#8230; we immensely appreciated everyone&#8217;s support! Thank you everyone, you rock!</p>



<p>Today we&#8217;re going to share the results and answer the comments we received.</p>



<p>This also means that we&#8217;re talking about stuff that we never shared before, so there&#8217;s a lot of new information, if you didn&#8217;t take a part in the survey.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">In-Game Reward for Kickstarter</h2>



<p>We intend to <strong>give Kickstarter backers one or more exclusive rewards</strong> (so <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/neptunegames/biosynth-rpg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">be sure to follow the Kickstarter</a> if you aren&#8217;t following it already).</p>



<p>The three in-game rewards mentioned in the survey all got about the same average score&#8230;</p>



<p>About these items, we got this comment:</p>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p><em>&#8220;I feel a kickstarter weapon or armor will either be not as good end game or too powerful all game (don&#8217;t need other weapons)&#8221;</em></p>
</blockquote>



<p>Which is a concern we&#8217;ve had since we first thought about offering an in-game item.</p>



<p>Before the survey we wanted it to be just a cosmetic item&#8230; but reading the following comment made us consider another point of view:</p>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p><em>&#8220;Regarding backer only items: it&#8217;s nothing too important for me. It&#8217;s nice to have, though, but if it&#8217;s just cosmetic, i wouldn&#8217;t use it probably. Make it extra strong and then we&#8217;re talking, but that&#8217;s just my person point of view :)&#8221;</em></p>
</blockquote>



<p>After thinking about these&#8230; we think we found a great solution: the in-game item could be <strong>a cool item that can be upgraded during your adventures</strong>.</p>



<p>This way, you can use it in early game without it being OP&#8230; and it will get powerups so you can keep using it in later parts of the game.</p>



<p>The required pieces to upgrade the item could be found around or you could get them from NPCs. We&#8217;ll take the time to create something cool about this upgrading process.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Most Loved Features/Content for Eventual Stretch Goals</h2>



<p>The feedbacks about the game features/content were really interesting and there were a few surprises.</p>



<p>These were the most loved ones:</p>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Cyberware &amp; implants</li>



<li>Additional maps</li>



<li>Additional classes</li>



<li>Skilltrees for each skill</li>
</ol>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Cyberware and Implants</h3>



<p>Cyberware and implants have been in my mind for a long time. I always thought it would make the game way cooler&#8230; but my opinion it&#8217;s just my opinion&#8230; after seeing the overwhelmingly positive rating from the community, I got it: everyone wants those.</p>



<p>Here&#8217;s the thing. Having cyberware and implants as simple 2D icons to drop on an equipment slot doesn&#8217;t cut it for me. If you equip that cool cyber arm, <strong>you want to see that</strong> cool cyber arm on your character.</p>



<p>That seemingly simple feature hides an incredibly hard challenge: you have to handle implants together with an armor system. How do you handle having a complex cyberware AND a metal armor?</p>



<p>We found a solution and are ready to work on this, if we reach that stretch goal <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>



<p>By the way, not all the implants will reflect on your character&#8217;s appearance&#8230; for example, if you equip some cyber lungs, obviously they won&#8217;t show up&#8230; but every cyberware you equip will give some perks.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Additional Maps and Classes</h3>



<p>Additional maps and classes are self-explanatory&#8230; but honestly I was really surprised to see additional maps as the second most wanted feature! That&#8217;s great to know.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Skilltrees for Each Skill</h3>



<p>Skilltrees for each skill is a feature where <strong>each singular skill has its own small skill tree</strong>. Think about customizing a skill with its own 4-6 variations.</p>



<p>Let&#8217;s suppose that there&#8217;s a skill for the ninja that allows him to get behind an enemy from a certain range and then backstab them dealing 150% weapon damage. This skill could have a tree branch where you also deal negative status to the enemy as bleeding, paralysis, poison, etc&#8230; or another tree branch where you get to backstab 2 enemies instead of 1.</p>



<p>Thanks to the <a href="https://neptunegames.net/update-intoducing-the-modular-skill-system/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">modular skill system</a> that we developed, this isn&#8217;t challenging to create&#8230; but we&#8217;d have to run a lot more tests.</p>



<p>But it&#8217;s cool because it allows you to customize your build a lot more!</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Less Popular Features</h3>



<p>As for the not so popular features, I&#8217;m surprised that <strong>voice acting</strong> didn&#8217;t end up higher &#8211; it got in the 6th spot, out of 9 features.</p>



<p><strong>Consoles version</strong> and <strong>localization</strong> ended up as the 2 lowest ranking features&#8230; which isn&#8217;t a surprise since not all the players need them. But I understand that these are crucial for some players, so <strong>we&#8217;ll still keep them into consideration</strong>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Most Loved Classes</strong></h2>



<p>Of course, we had to talk about classes.</p>



<p>At first we already had an order for the additional classes that we wanted to put in the game&#8230; but then we thought: <em>&#8220;we&#8217;ll let the players decide what are their favourite classes&#8221;</em>.</p>



<p>The <strong>slaver</strong> got the last spot. It seemed a cool class, but I can see why it ended up so low: only a part of the players want to play as an evil character.</p>



<p>The <strong>ammunitionist</strong> got the 5<sup>th</sup> place, very close to the <strong>soldie</strong>r that ended up at the 4<sup>th</sup> place.</p>



<p>The 3<sup>rd</sup> place went to the <strong>genetist</strong>, with my great surprise &#8211; I didn&#8217;t expect it to score so high. Well, having mutants fight for you seems fun&#8230; and spreading diseases is also a good power to have.</p>



<p>The second place went to the <strong>scientist</strong>. They can throw gravity bombs to gather enemies in a place, use boson techs to enlarge objects or make them smaller, or open a tiny black hole in the middle of the battlefield.</p>



<p>And the first place goes to the <strong>machinist</strong>. I knew this class was a winner from the very start! In part summoner, in part shapeshifter. They can summon robots of various shapes and sizes (from small spiders, to mid-sized dogs, to big lions) and enter in their own small gundam-like mech units.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Answering Comments</strong></h2>



<p>Let me start by saying to the people who wanted to contribute to testing/voice acting/localization/analysis/etc.: <strong>thank you so much for wanting to help</strong>, we really appreciate it&#8230; and the survey was anonimous, so we can&#8217;t contact you&#8230; shoot us and email if you want to get in touch.</p>



<p>Now, let&#8217;s answer a few comments:</p>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p><em>&#8220;Would love to see a class that somewhat resembles a Wizard/Mage class.&#8221;</em></p>
</blockquote>



<p>The good news is that the hacker (that is already in the game), is basically a wizard – more on the <strong>illusionist</strong> and <strong>manipulator</strong> side, but has <strong>some big damage AoE abilities</strong> too. If we get to add the scientist, that would be more of a <strong>DPS wizard</strong>.</p>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p><em>&#8220;Gamepad support would be fantastic&#8221;</em></p>
</blockquote>



<p>Can&#8217;t remember if it was in the last version of the demo&#8230; but in our current build, we have <strong>controls mapping</strong>. That doesn&#8217;t translate automatically into gamepad support&#8230; but we already have the foundation for that.</p>



<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p><em>&#8220;I really like the skill tree but would love more complex skill trees. I worry about some skill trees that end up useless or super weak.&#8221;</em></p>
</blockquote>



<p>I know that in the currently released version of the demo there are just skills from skill trees&#8230; but those won&#8217;t be the only skills. After the first few levels, <strong>most of your gear will grant you additional skills</strong>&#8230; and then you can also equip 3 quick items, which basically are <strong>3 wildcard skills</strong>. You&#8217;ll have <strong>plenty of chances to customize your build</strong>.</p>

<p>And of course, if we get to make the skilltrees for each skill, there will be even more skills to choose from.</p>



<p>About some skills ending up useless/weak, we test them. And even if a skill pass our tests, <strong>we&#8217;ll listen to players&#8217; feedbacks</strong>. Our end goal is to <strong>make players have fun with skills</strong>!</p>

<p>Consider that with a very limited budget we have to <strong>make important choices</strong>. <a href="https://neptunegames.net/whats-the-vision-for-biosynth/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The 3 pillars discussed here</a> are guiding us. If we get to bring our full vision to the game, we can think about romances too. But if do them, we most likely won&#8217;t be able to do them with cinematics.</p>

<p>These are great news that are accompanying our work in developing the game.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Improving the Game</h2>



<p>Lately we&#8217;ve been doing a lot of background work – mostly things that you can&#8217;t see right away, but allows us to create stuff easily and quickly, other than making the game more robust.</p>

<p>Apart from that, we&#8217;ve kept doing bug fixing – that never ends!</p>



<p>We also added new content. For example, new weapons that grant the players some new skills. Don&#8217;t hate us if we don&#8217;t show it yet&#8230; the time will come soon.</p>



<p>Additionally, we&#8217;ve been working on a couple of additional features to make combat richer. But before we can openly talk about them, we have to complete them and be sure that they work properly.</p>



<p>And finally, we also improved some visuals. Here&#8217;s an example about the character creation screen before and after the improvement.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Upcoming Content to the Demo</h2>



<p>Our goal is to publish a demo where you can start playing the main quest. In fact, up to now, if you tried to play that, you&#8217;d encounter this dialog:</p>

<p>It isn&#8217;t the whole main quest though – it&#8217;s a light version of the main quest in Act 1&#8230; the full main quest for Act 1 will be available for the early access.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Getting Ready for the Kickstarter</h2>



<p>We&#8217;re preparing for the Kickstarter campaign – will be sharing something as we approach the launch.</p>



<p>The idea was to launch the Kickstarter in June&#8230; but we may have to wait 1-3 more months for a few reasons&#8230;</p>



<p>A reason is that we want to have the expanded demo ready at least 1 month before the launch. And we may not get there before mid May.</p>



<p>Another reason is that our character artist has had an unexpected event and won&#8217;t be able to complete the ninja before June. We want to show you the ninja in action <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>



<p>Can&#8217;t say if he&#8217;ll be playable in the final demo, but at least we want to show you some of his combat skills.</p>



<p>The good thing is that if we have to delay the Kickstarter by those 1 to 3 months, we&#8217;ll have more time to prepare new content and show you more cool ideas.</p>

<p>About 10 days ago we hit 500 followers on Kickstarter, which is an important milestone for the upcoming launch. </p>

<p>BioSynth takes place in a lore-rich world called Jaia around the year 2300. It&#8217;s a world <strong>full of wonders</strong> with a huge diversity both in the environment and in the settlements – human or not.</p>



<p>If we take a quick look at some of the continents, we&#8217;ll see the <strong>flourishing jungles</strong> of Betiti that seamlessly transition to their <strong>green cities full of mutants</strong>, the <strong>seemingly uninhabited freezing land</strong> of Al-Vazir that <strong>hides astonishing undergound cities</strong>, and much more&#8230;</p>



<p>During BioSynth, you&#8217;ll stay on Krania, a continent full of minerary resources that after going through a <strong>super-quick expansion</strong>, ruined its environment <strong>well after the point of no return</strong>. Thankfully, the continent became so rich that it is still the <strong>biggest economic force</strong> in the planet.</p>



<p>Actually, that isn&#8217;t a good thing&#8230; because where there&#8217;s money, there&#8217;s greed. And <strong>when there&#8217;s greed, people do horrible things</strong>.</p>



<p>Anyway, the game starts in Etheita, <strong>the</strong> <strong>most thriving city in Krania</strong>&#8230;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Etheita, the City of the Endless Possibilities</h2>



<p>You start the game in Freedom Streets, the <strong>slums of the city</strong>&#8230; after a quick and (un)fortunate series of events, you end up there.</p>

<p>&#8230; it&#8217;s only normal that you&#8217;ll want to get out of there.</p>



<p>If you find your way out, you&#8217;ll get to visit downtown, which is a <strong>lively place where all kinds of activities take place</strong>. Let me highlight ALL KINDS of ACTIVITIES.</p>



<p>Some <strong>superpowers have their headquarters there</strong>. For example, the Bounters&#8217; headquarters is there&#8230; that&#8217;s the superpower that dispatches bounty hunters all over the planet. If you wish, you can start a career as bounty hunter for the Bounters, but notice that <strong>only the strongest climb the ladder</strong> and can reach high rankings there&#8230; the others stay stuck&#8230; or worse, they try to catch a big fish outside of their league and die.</p>



<p><em>Note: superpowers are organizations that rule the world, since most of the governments don&#8217;t exist anymore on the planet.</em></p>



<p>Etheita is big city, but which parts of the city you&#8217;ll get to see depends on what funds we&#8217;ll be able to gather to finish the game. <p>Paradise Bay and Southport are two additional areas worth visiting, if we get to make them.</p>



<p>Anyway, you may want to take a tour outside of the city, for a variety of reasons that you&#8217;ll figure out when playing the game.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Dangerous Surroundings of Etheita</h2>

<p>While The Machine is located outside of Etheita (and quite far from it), it&#8217;s considered part of the city. It&#8217;s a <strong>giant industrial area</strong> made for a very specific reason: migrating all the industries that were in the city further away to avoid killing citizens with toxic wastes of all sorts.</p>



<p>In case you&#8217;re wondering how can humans work in The Machine when it&#8217;s full of pollution&#8230; well, they don&#8217;t. All the workers there are robots, with the exception of some humans that have to carry a time limited job in that place.</p>



<p>Seen from afar, The Machine appears like a <strong>giant metallic plateau</strong>. Its elevated construction was decided mainly for two reasons: to <strong>distance the production site from the unloading area</strong> as much as possible; and to <strong>protect the district from surrounding desert marauders</strong> or any other type of <strong>unwanted invader</strong>.</p>



<p>In fact, the desert where The Machine lies is the home of <strong>many criminal gangs</strong>. And certain places are <strong>full of mutants</strong>.</p>



<p>Speaking of mutants&#8230; we probably should talk about the Deadland&#8230; but we won&#8217;t. Just stay out of that place, unless you&#8217;re hunting a huge catch, it isn&#8217;t worth risking your life there.</p>



<p>But there&#8217;s an even stranger place out there. A place born out of a terrible accident that is a concern for many&#8230; and an opportunity for others.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Conclusion</h2>



<p>This was a quick overview of the area where the game take place. I didn&#8217;t talk about certain places and only covered the surface of others, since I don&#8217;t want to ruin the joy of the discovery for you when playing the game. Also, each place has its own personalities and customs, making it different.</p>



<p>With this post I just wanted to give you a glimpse into the depth of the lore in this game.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s been a while since our last update&#8230; here&#8217;s what&#8217;s going on&#8230;</p>



<p>We&#8217;ve been working on many <strong>&#8220;background&#8221; things</strong> that will help us <strong>scale the content</strong>, but they&#8217;re mostly tech stuff, so they aren&#8217;t exactly the most exciting things to see on the planet&#8230;</p>



<p>&#8230; we also buit a few <strong>new features</strong>, but can share only one of those.</p>



<p>Other than that, we&#8217;ve been working on <strong>new NPCs and quests</strong>&#8230; and <strong>some art</strong> that we prefer not to share yet <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Don&#8217;t hate us, the day will come. On the other hand, we have some new art that we can share.</p>



<p>For those playing the demo, we aren&#8217;t going to ship the new version for a while because we started something that we can&#8217;t stop till it&#8217;s completed. This likely means that the next demo version that you&#8217;ll get to play will be the 3.0 – that is also likely to be on Steam. The good news is that <strong>it&#8217;s going to be worth the waiting</strong> <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The &#8220;Background&#8221; Work</h2>



<p>We&#8217;ve been working on <strong>many things related to skills</strong>&#8230; because you know, skills are important.</p>



<p>Well, a good amount of work has been about <strong>bringing the powerful skill system</strong> that we created <strong>to enemies</strong>. This also meant that we <strong>developed the enemy AI to handle the skills in combat better</strong>.</p>



<p>The overall idea is that both your skills and the enemies&#8217; ones will contribute to increase the fun that you&#8217;ll have during combat.</p>



<p>Other than working on skills on the enemies&#8217; end, we also improved (and are still working on improving) <a href="https://neptunegames.net/update-intoducing-the-modular-skill-system/" data-type="link" data-id="https://neptunegames.net/update-intoducing-the-modular-skill-system/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the modular skill system</a>. This will prepare the way for quickslots, the ninja class, &#8220;summonings&#8221; and more&#8230;</p>



<p>Since creating new skills and refining the old ones is crucial, we also started working on the Skill Designer, a tool that will allow us to <strong>create and test skills easily and quickly</strong>.</p>



<p>But isn&#8217;t just about the skills&#8230; after all, it&#8217;s an RPG, isn&#8217;t it?</p>



<p>We started an <strong>important work to improve the Dialog Maker</strong> so that we&#8217;ll cut the time necessary to get the dialogs ready inside the game. Personally, I&#8217;m super-excited about this because it&#8217;s one of two pieces that will <strong>help a lot in scaling dialogs and quests</strong>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">New Feature: Crit System</h2>



<p>Now, during combat you can inflict (or receive, ouch!) <strong>critical damage</strong>.</p>



<p>It seemed a logical choice to add crits so that we can <strong>bring an additional dept</strong> into the strategies that you can leverage in a fight.</p>



<p>It also feel more satisfying to land a critical hit&#8230; and since some builds could be able to deal critical hits consistently, it&#8217;s more fun if you want to play that type of build.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Item Arts</h2>



<p>We recently created the icons for quite a few items in the game.</p>

<p>In the upcoming months, probably we won&#8217;t have many cool things to show because of the background work that we are doing.
